I believe (albeit with a sample size of 1) that you must install the FTDI drivers from FTDI for High Sierra in order to talk to a Voltera.

If you have old zombie drivers laying around your system (like I did), they may prevent you from talking to your Voltera.

Removing the old drivers doesn’t quite do the trick.

I’m glad you found a solution. Please keep me posted if you find more (e.g. if you upgrade one of the other machines in your office).

Some additional thoughts:
The FTDI vs AppleFTDI drivers conflict is a mess that I was happy to leave behind when Apple fixed their driver in El Capitan. There’s a chance that something broke in High Sierra but it’s not clear. I’m running High Sierra, and it works for me, but not for @Abraxas3d…I removed the FTDI drivers long ago, so perhaps their presence during the OS upgrade is relevant.

If other Mac users out there are running High Sierra with or without issues, please let me know. For now, I’m going to hold off on placing the FTDI drivers (back) on our site.

Will do! So far so good with this mid-2012 Macbook Air running High Sierra with the most recent third party FTDI drivers.

Some additional data points.

A second High Sierra Macbook Pro with third party drivers installed worked with the Voltera. The drivers were for a quad-FTDI product.

A Mac Pro running Sierra with stock Apple FTDI drivers worked with the Voltera. This computer cannot be upgraded yet to High Sierra due to an NVidia driver issue. As soon as that’s resolved, and it is upgraded, then I or someone out there with similar OS/driver state can test before/after upgrading to High Sierra to help narrow it down.

The concern is that High Sierra re-opened the FTDI driver problem. If a works-with-voltera Sierra becomes a doesn’t-work-with-voltera High Sierra, and no third party drivers had ever been installed, then that’s a bug.
