Remove piston from used cartridge & Setup to print uniform ink thickness

I’m trying to remove the piston from the used cartridge to clean the ink/paste. Is there a tips and trick about how to do it effectively so that the cartridge still can be reused?

Another question but kind of out of topic, is it possible to print uniform ink thickness among various substrates? What should I do to set the same thickness in each printing?

I’m trying to remove the piston from the used cartridge

I use my compressor air gun to pop them out. Best to wrap them in a cloth first, so you don’t have to go looking for them out in the paddock, or risk injury to anyone, as they can come out at some speed!
