Flex Conductor - To Burnish or Not to Burnish?

Hey everyone,

Trying out the flex conductor and I forgot to burnish my first print and soldered + reflowed with no issues. Just wondering, is burnishing necessary or even a good idea at all with the flex conductor?

Hi @sarah,

Glad to hear you’re working with the flex ink! Unlike the regular conductor, flex ink will still accept solder nicely without burnishing. Just make sure that you encapsulate the components / solder joints in an epoxy or glue, since the pads are quite brittle after soldering.

We don’t have a much documentation available for flex yet, so thanks for sharing your flex experiences for other users to reference!

Hey @Abraxas3d,

I’ve used a few different types - I usually go with a clear UV-curable adhesive or resin, so that the component is visible after curing. The one I’ve got on hand now is Dymax 9-20557, since it was available from a local distributor and got here fast. I’ve also used the Formlabs clear resin on occasion, or a two-part epoxy like the JB weld clear-weld or Loctite plastic bonder. Pretty much as long as it cures hard, and is viscous enough to apply without spreading everywhere, you should have good results.

Hello Sarah,

I am trying to print with the flex conductive ink but I have not had success yet. Do you mind share with me your printing settings? My main issue is that the ink does not come out and the printed traces are not continuous
