Fixing USB disconnect/reconnect problems on Windows 10

My voltera disconnects and reconnects frequently from USB so it was unusable. From my perspective there are 3 main reasons reasons for this:

1. The USB drivers are outdated.
2. The USB electrical connection is sensitive against EMP.
3. The device can’t handle the USB power management in a propper way.

I got it fixed by checking / doing the following things:

• Try different high quality USB cables with shielding.
• Check if the FTDI Chip Drivers are up to date. You need the latest FTD2xx drivers.
• Use the “high performance power plan”.
• Disable “USB Selective Suspend” (“edit power plan” -> “advanced options”).
• Disable “PCI Express” -> "Link State Power Management (“edit power plan” -> “advanced options”).
• For every USB root hub disable suspension in power management (“Device Manager” -> “USB Controller”)

P.S.
The Voltera has still a not a 100% stable USB connection on my HP Z820 Workstation (2*XEON). It works good on my Dell Lattitude Laptop.

Thank you for the information. I appreciate the detailed steps you have taken to address this.

On your HP Z820 Workstation do you find the USB connection drops when you are doing something in particular? For example - do you notice it will drop when you are drilling? Or when you are baking?

Also - When did you receive your machine? We have made several hardware changes in the past 2 years to specifically address this issue.
